Senior Consultant Ecologist

Company: WSP    Location: Birmingham
WSP are seeking an senior consultant ecologist to join our growing team in Birmingham. The successful applicant will be working as an integral member of the ecology team, delivering the highest standards of technical work and aiding the continued expansion of the ecology business through client focused delivery. The work will be diverse and involve all aspects of ecological consultancy with a focus on undertaking surveys, preparing reporting deliverables and implementing mitigation on the ground. You will have the opportunity to work throughout the UK and potentially overseas.

A typical week would include:
Planning and undertaking Extended Phase 1 habitat surveys
Undertaking Phase 2 species surveys
Technical report production including; survey reports, management plans, mitigation strategies and input into protected species licence application
Providing advice and guidance to our clients in relation to biodiversity legislation and policy
Project management; to include client and stakeholder liaison, financial management and project programming in line with our business management system.
About You

Wed love to hear from you if have:
An appropriate academic qualification in a related discipline and be a member (or working towards) of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management.
Demonstrable experience in ecological consultancy, ideally to include Preliminary Ecological Appraisal, a range of protected species surveys, experience guiding clients through the planning process and the implementation of ecological avoidance and mitigation measures on site.
Be a holder (or working towards) of a European protected species survey license.
A good understanding of relevant wildlife legislation and ecological survey methodologies.
Excellent report writing skills with a focus on quality and attention to detail.
A valid driving license and be comfortable in working in remote locations.
