This year, Amazon Early Insights will take place 16th-20th April 2018 in the Amazon Development Centre (in central Edinburgh). Amazon will cover accommodation, food and travel expenses.
This is the perfect opportunity to find out more about Amazon, build your contacts, get unrivalled access to Amazon’s engineers and inventors and most importantly, develop your software engineering skills!
This is an event sponsored by the Amazon Women in Engineering group in Edinburgh. The Early Insights program aims to increase gender diversity in technology by enabling female engineering students in their early years of study to develop a network of women in technology, learn about Amazon’s business and determine if they would be interested in a career in technology. Applications for employment with Amazon are considered equally on their merits regardless of gender.
Deadline for applications is 28th January 2018. Basic Qualifications

Am I eligible to apply?
You must identify as a female student, currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree in computer science, computer engineering, informatics or a closely related technical field at an accredited university and due to graduate in summer of 2020 or 2021. You should be curious about computing and have a good academic record. We accept applicants that are over 18 years old and are from the UK or the European Economic Area (EEA) region, and non-EEA students provided that you have, or can obtain the rights to work and travel to the UK. Sadly, we cannot organize visas on your behalf at this time.
What does Amazon expect from me?
In alignment with the Amazon motto, we want you to “work hard, have fun, make history”. Expect to be challenged in a friendly environment and collaborate with other smart, female engineering students on building an exciting project during the three-day hack. Our full-time staff will provide coaching and support along the way. We also have an exciting social program to help you explore and enjoy Edinburgh! You do not have to have experience in participating in hackathons; knowing the basics of at least one high level programming language (such as Java or Python) is enough.
What does “all-expense paid” really mean?
For students who are not from Edinburgh we provide accommodation and a travel stipend. Amazon Early Insight participants will be housed in a hotel in Edinburgh. Don’t worry, we will organize the lodging! We will also provide your meals throughout the program.
