Media Monitor

We are currently seeking applications for Media Monitors within the Scottish Government communications division based in Edinburgh. This is a permanent and pensionable appointment and new entrants will normally start on the minimum of the pay range. Candidates with a disability who meet the essential criteria below will be invited to the assessments.

The Media Monitoring Unit (MMU) sits at the heart of the communications division and this is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in current affairs and the news media.

The MMU summarises news coverage and distributes written updates to Ministers, special advisers, communications teams and senior officials. Media monitoring is a fast-paced area and tight deadlines are the norm. The MMU also monitors news websites and social media channels and alerts communications teams to any breaking Scottish Government-related news.

As well as providing vital media monitoring support, MMU staff are often involved in short to medium-term project work. The MMU has an established daily routine. Core hours are 0700 to 1530 (1500 on Fridays). There are four media monitors in the Unit.

Qualifications Required
For jobs in Bands B and C, you must hold a minimum of 3 SCE Higher or equivalent qualifications. If you are in any doubt, please contact the Resourcing Officer named at the end of this advert to discuss.

Essential Criteria
1. Strong interpersonal skills and experience of working as part of a team, sharing information and helping colleagues deliver a service.
2. Experience of producing accurate work where attention to detail is very important.
3. A good knowledge of Scottish current affairs including Scottish Government responsibilities and general media awareness.
4. Ability to search and extract relevant information quickly from various electronic data sources.
