Leeds Children and Families Services Partners in Practice Programme

Leeds is a big city with big ambitions we want to be the Best City for Children and Families in the UK. Weve made a lot of progress in the past five years, and have won national and international recognition for the impact and outcomes of our work to reform and improve childrens services in the city.

Our approach is based on strong shared values and beliefs that families are part of solution not the problem, that we need a new relationship between families and the state, and that building strong relationships is the key to change.

As a Department for Education Partner in Practice, we are working closely with government to develop new models of childrens services fit for the 21 st Century. The government is supporting Leeds through the Partners in Practice Programme with up to £9.6 million over four years to build on our work and continue to drive change and innovation in Leeds and to support innovation and improvement across the country.

As part of our Partners in Practice Programme we have new opportunities for people who share our passion for change and belief in building a better way in working with children and families. We have opportunities in the following area:

Restorative Early Support Teams: multi-disciplinary teams developing new ways of working with children and families, working across early help and social work and building new ways of working with local schools and services, using the Leeds Practice Model.

Team Manager : you will be an experienced practitioner with a social work qualification; you will have experience of management or be ready to move into a leadership role. As a Restorative Early Support Team Manager you will lead, motivate and direct a discrete team of social workers and family support practitioners.

Social Worker: You will be an experienced practitioner with a social work qualification. We will appoint dependent on your experience, skills and career development to date which will be reflected in the starting salary. The roles available include Senior Social Worker and Social Worker. As such when applying for the role, refer to the job description that best fits your own experience, skills and career development.

For both roles you will have demonstrable working knowledge of safeguarding children and young people including the legal context, and an excellent working knowledge of childrens social work procedures.

You will be committed to applying this knowledge and experience to working in close partnership with multi-agency agency partners and practitioners to identify the best ways in which the needs of children and young people can be addressed which may be through Early Help plans or through Child in Need plans.

You will have excellent relationship building skills both in working with children and families but also in making, developing and sustaining close and effective working relationships with practitioners in other agencies.

You must be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of Restorative Practice and be able to demonstrate how this can be used as a basis to work with families and with other practitioners.

You will need to work flexibly and with initiative and be able to demonstrate high level interpersonal skills with innovative thinking. You will be able to develop creative family focused responses to emerging need with the multi-agency partners.

You will be able to lead on embedding the Leeds Practice Model underpinned by restorative practice, which is the bedrock of Leeds Children and Families Services ambition to universally recognise the utility of families themselves and the intrinsic value of highly collaborative approaches. The Leeds Practice Model encompasses Rethink Formulation, Leeds Practice Principles and Outcome Focused Supervision.
