Apprentice Receptionist

Job Summary

Churchfield Medical Centre are recruiting for an Apprentice Receptionist in their busy practice in Old Basford. You will be working as part of the Reception Team to provide a point of contact for patients and act as a focal point of communication between patients, doctors and other medical staff. This apprenticeship is a great opportunity for a highly motivated and organised individual wanting to gain experience in administration and customer service within a medical environment.

Churchfield are a modern and friendly training practice with approximately 10,000 patients. We offer a flexible, friendly environment for all out staff which includes4 GP partners, 1 existing salaried GP, 2 F2 registrars, nurse triage system, nurse manager, practise nurses, health care assistant, practice pharmacist and a full and competent support team who are all committed to high quality patient care.

Responsibilities and Duties

The main duties will include:

  • Receive and make phone calls as required, taking messages and diverting calls when appropriate
  • Responding to queries and requests for assistance from patients and other visitors
  • Booking appointments
  • Marking patients as present on arrival, utilising the number system in place
  • Action GP requests for emergency ambulance transport
  • Explaining practise arrangements and formal requirements to new patients and those seeking temporary cover or immediate treatment
  • Appropriate checks on prescription collections
  • Ensuring records are accurately assembled
  • Retrieve and re-file records as required, ensuring the alphabetic order is adhered to
  • Repeat prescriptions and relevant records
  • Preparing consulting rooms in readiness for surgery

Qualifications and Skills

To be considered for this position, you will meet the following requirements:

  • A*-D grades in English, Maths and ICT ( essential )
  • Previous experience (an advantage but not a requirement)
  • A good business attitude
  • Great interpersonal skills
  • Team player
  • Friendly and approachable
  • Presentable and professional

The working hours are 37.5 hours per week, flexible between 7.30am to 6.30pm Monday Friday.

The National Minimum Wage (NMW) rate for apprentices is £3.50 per hour. This applies to 16 18 year old apprentices and those over 19 in the first year of their apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum Wage appropriate to their age applies. The Minimum Wage for apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time spent training.
