Job Summary

A Personal Assistant is required to support me in my day to day life. I am wheelchair user living in Nottingham, and require assistance in all aspects of personal care, domestic care and social activities. You will be required to work shifts including early mornings, daytime, evenings, sleep-in with 2x wakes, alternate weekends, holidays and sickness cover. This is part time temporary position but could lead to full time permanent position for the right candidate. There is no agency as you will be employed directly by me.


The ideal candidate will have a dynamic and enthusiastic outlook on life. Candidate should be willing to work flexibly as there is need to provide cover on short notice, accompanying me to programs/events/hospital appointments within and outside Nottingham. Should also be capable of providing high quality personal/domestic care and have access or means to commute to work. Effective communication skills (speaking, listening, reading and writing) are very essential. Professionalism at all times is crucial. The PA will have an easy-going personality and a good sense of humour. Must be honest, a team player, reliable and trustworthy. Able to follow instructions as well as an ability to use own initiative.

Holiday and sickness covers are expected, so successful candidate must be available to cover these when required.

Responsibilities and Duties

The following are detailed but not exhaustive duties that will be expected

Personal care

  • Hoisting to and from bed, wheelchair and commode
  • Personal care and hygiene like washing/showering, dressing/undressing, toilet
  • Washing hair (occasionally) and creaming body
  • Checking skin condition and applying cream if required
  • Cutting, paring and filing toe and finger nails
  • Performing passive exercise to limbs
  • General grooming, make-up and personal appearances
  • Assistance with prompting medication if required

Domestic care

  • House cleaning and keeping the house hazard-free
  • Cleaning and tidying work surfaces, appliances, shelves, etc.
  • Preparing food & drinks if required
  • Washing up dishes after use
  • Bed-making & keeping bed and bedding clean and tidy
  • Putting clothing to washing machine, airing or drying in dryer, ironing, folding and putting clothes in cupboard
  • Keeping medicines, incontinence products, body creams, in an orderly, hygienic and secure manner and preparing these for use
  • Cleaning wheelchair if required
  • Ensuring waste is cleared away, binned and put away for collection
  • Shopping, collecting prescriptions if required

Sleep in

  • Assisting service user to turnover in a comfortable position in the night for up to 2 times
  • Assistance with using the toilet if required

Social care

  • Assistance with getting to & from and in & out of transport
  • Providing company and support outside the home e.g. opening doors
  • Generally helping to make trips outside the home go smoothly
  • Accompanying to social events, meetings, appointments and on shopping if required
  • Assisting to entertain in my own home if required

General care

  • Putting rubbish out for collection
  • Clearing snow from pathways, drives, etc.
  • Clean doors and windows if required
  • Filing paper work, taking telephone messages if I am absent, writing down telephone number of caller
  • Enabling to carry out my chosen activity whether inside or outside the home by carrying out any other request that I may reasonably make

Qualifications and Skills


  • None required but any training in care or related role will be an advantage
