Job Summary

  • General Management and Administration

*

  • Maintain a high level of service and hygiene in the kitchen.

*

  • Assist the Chef with any ordering/stocktaking requirements.

*

  • Deputise in the absence of the Chef.

*

  • Supervise the catering assistants in their duties.

*

  • Ensure there is no wastage of food.

*

  • Ensure food stores are kept secure at all times.

*

  • Ensure food is not consumed in the kitchen.

*

  • Comply with the Homes policy regarding providing meals for staff.
  • 2. Health, Safety and Security

*

  • To be aware of fire procedures and to attend fire lectures (at least one theory and one practical per year).
  • Ensure that all staff take reasonable precautions against the risk of accidents.

*

  • Attend in service training lectures on Manual Handling operations at least twice per year.
  • Ensure that all equipment is used correctly and safely in accordance with manufacturers instructions and/or guidance from statutory bodies.

*

  • Maintain equipment in good condition and report any loss or damage to the Sister or Cook-in-Charge as appropriate.

*

  • Ensure that all staff are aware of their responsibilities with regard to food hygiene in the handling, preparing and serving of food.

*

  • Ensure when handling, preparing and serving food due attention is paid to food hygiene standards.

*

  • Respond to emergency/crisis situations appropriately.2.9 Ensure that all reasonable precautions are taken to ensure the safeand welfare of residents, staff and visitors in the Home and that Health and Safety procedures are adhered to.2.10 Ensure that all accidents to residents, staff and visitors are reported and recorded following Eversleigh SOPs.

  • Maintain the standards of hygiene and cleanliness in the kitchen, dining and storage areas. Liaise with the Chef on any difficulties.

*

  • Ensure fridge/freezers temperatures are taken daily in line with the Homes procedures.

*

  • Ensure cleaning schedules are adhered to and recorded as required.
  • 3. Resident Care

*

  • Ensure that appropriate level of communication is maintained with the residents and relatives.

*

  • Encourage relatives to maintain regular contact and offer assistance as necessary.

*

  • Participate in the reception of new residents.

*

  • Ensure menus are changed at least twice a year following consultation with the residents.
  • Ensure meals provided are nutritious, balanced, varied and appropriate for the resident group.

*

  • Ensure residents likes and dislikes and special diets are recorded, kept up to date and all catering staff are notified.

*

  • Ensure all food served is presented to a high standard and is appealing to the residents.

*

  • Ensure food is served hot at correct temperatures.

*

  • Ensure any alternatives to the set menu provided are recorded in the alternatives diary.3.10 Prepare meals according to the menus.3.11 Prepare and serve breakfasts3.12 Ensure meals are served on time and assist in the serving as required.

  • Prepare and serve beverages as required.3.14 Take immediate action on all complaints in accordance with Eversleighs complaints procedures.

  • Personal Development

*

  • Keep up to date with new techniques, procedures and equipment

*

  • Keep up to date with current food hygiene regulations.
  • 5. Personnel

*

  • Participate in staff meetings.

*

  • Attend team meetings as required.
  • Participate in staff induction as required.

*

  • Attend supervision with the allocated supervisor.

*

  • Attend Appraisal meetings with the Manager.

*

  • Ensure breaks are taken in line with the Homes policy.

*

  • Supervise the Kitchen Assistants to ensure high standards of catering are maintained.

*

  • 6. Training

*

  • Participate in induction and other staff training events.

*

  • Encourage staff to keep up to date with new techniques, procedures and equipment.

*

  • Attend in service Mandatory Training as required by the Manager.

*

  • Ensure Basic Food Hygiene Certificate is kept up to date.

Qualifications and Skills

Catering level 2 qualifications needed.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: £9.00 to £10.00 /hour
